Risk is inevitable. An organisation can dot every i and cross every t, abide by every regulation, and have every accreditation, and yet, the risk remains. My point of difference is an ability to tap into the most valuable source of information regarding what, where, and how risk is impacting a company – its people. And people are nuanced.
A natural people person, I leverage my diverse experience and active listening skills to extract those golden nuggets of information from an organisation’s staff. I adapt and speak people’s language to convey what needs to change to close the risk gaps and ensure risk is managed within the tolerances of the Board or company’s risk-appetite .
I am not a risk manager that applies policy blindly - I believe that stifles independent thought, creativity, innovation and ultimately growth. Instead, I define core principles in a way that is relevant to that unique context or culture. My emphasis on best practice uplifts management and staff and minimises risk while moving the company forward commercially.
A problem solver with a strong focus on fund management, corporate finance and private equity, my audit and risk experience enables me to see all the moving parts. From there, I design tailored frameworks - governance, processes, policies, and reporting.
Honest and upfront, I communicate the principles behind each risk mitigation measure to get everyone on board. I speak the hard truths, but make sure I give people the tools they need to overcome and grow.
